Wisdom

Why do we have wisdom teeth? They do not make us, well, me at least, wise. If anything, they made me more stupid. I still have my wisdom teeth. They have never given me a problem until I had Jack. Come to find out one of them grew in sideways hitting the tooth next to it. Of course this cause a huge cavity and other lovely stuff. I am a wimp and was too scared to be put under for fear of never waking up again to see my husband and child. So, I never got them taken out.

Well, I have had tooth pain in this particular tooth on and off for about two years. I know. I know. I had some severe pain the day after Halloween but didn't do anything because I was just newly pregnant. I just suffered through the pain until it went away. Again, I know how stupid this sounds. See, I told you wisdom teeth make you stupider:) Yesterday I was eating lunch and felt that particular tooth with my tongue and oh my gosh half the tooth was gone. Where'd it go? Did I swallow it? Yummy!

Needless to say I had to go to the dentist yesterday afternoon and here I now sit with a gaping whole in my mouth. I had to go to the oral surgeon today to have it removed. And, unlike many of you lucky folk, I was not allowed to be put under due to my "condition" (being knocked up). Thankfully I was allowed some local anesthesia and all I really felt was a lot of pressure and a little pinching. The worst part was the HORRIBLE drill. The sound was excruciating. It literally was the sound you hear when you see a movie and the character who is terrified of going to the dentist sits in the waiting room and is freaked out by the sound of the drill; like in Finding Nemo.

Anyway, the procedure only took about twenty minutes and now I am home happily numbed. I wish the numbness would stay but I know it has to wear off eventually...shoot! I am hoping the pain isn't too bad because I am terrified to even take Tylenol. I am going to try and grin and bear it! Wish me luck! As for now, it looks like mashed potatoes and ice cream shakes. Good thing I'm pregnant and those two things sound really good together:)

OH MY! I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 18. IT was SUPER EASY! So when that baby makes his/her presence you better march yourself to the oral surgeon and get the rest taken out. My dad had his removed like you did your one... wide awake with just some local stuff. And he also said the sounds were the worst.

Anyway, glad you are doing well. Take some tylenol. Oh and if you plan to nurse, you probably can still have it done. Remember I had my gallbladder out and I was nursing Emma just a hour out of surgery (only b/c she doesn't take a bottle... stubborn little thing!). So I'm totally going on and on.. hope you feel better soon!!!

Notoriety

Teenage Mother A donkey owner Simon of Cyrene Who are these people? I am sure you can figure out the first one: Mary the mother of Jesus. Who are the others and what do all three of these people have in common? They all did extraordinary things but, for the most part, went unseen. Do you ever feel unseen? Undervalued? I do. I try not to get caught up in that space, but I find myself there too often. While Mary is infamous today, she wasn't when she brought the King into this world. She was a teenager who gave birth in a barn. She was an outcast who was pregnant but not married. She told of an unbelievable story involving an angel, a Spirit, and a Savior who was going to save the world. Could you even imagine? It's easy for us to be in awe of Mary. We know the whole story. She didn't. And neither did the people around her. She had to live it. To top it all off, she had to watch her beloved son die a gruesome death. Talk about feeling unseen and undervalued. She faithfu...

Holy Holy

I can't stop singing, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty." Scott and I went to the "big" ultrasound today where we tested to see if our baby had Down's, one of the Trisomy disorders, or any neural tube defects. I must admit the palms were a little sweaty and the heart was racing a bit. As surreal as this pregnancy is, I don't want anything to be wrong with this precious life inside of me. Well, holy is right. The Lord is not just good; He is awesome! Our little baby instantly began moving and grooving for us showing off fingers and toes and a great heart beat! Even though I am on my third, watching the miracle of life on that screen NEVER gets old! It truly blows my mind every time I get to see our precious angels developing inside of me! The scan came out wonderfully. We got all positives on all the scans the doctor (who was absolutely INCREDIBLE) could do. Now we just wait for some blood work to confirm that everything is okay with our little boy. ...

Don't Lose You

When Jackson was a baby, I would hop into my car on my lunch break and rush to his day care to see him. I had thirty minutes with my baby and I needed every last second. I was a mess of a new mom and had a really hard time leaving him everyday. I was caught in the conundrum of loving teaching with all that I was and loving being a mom desperately wanting to stay home. I established a neat relationship with Jack's care-takers. They were a little older than me and much wiser. They will never fully know how appreciative I am for their advice and comfort during those beginning moments as a mama. When I decided to leave my teaching career and move halfway across the country to do so, they gave me a piece of advice that I didn't take seriously initially but now hold dear. They told me I had to find something for me. They watched me finish my master's that year and knew I was the type that needed to be doing. They recognized that I was about to enter a season where I had to hold...
