Thursday Thirteen~ Eartquakes vs. Tornadoes

Since I am from California and have experienced numerous earthquakes, some large and some small, I thought I would compare my earthquake experience with my new found tornado experience. What fun, right?! Enjoy!

1. There are tornado warnings so you can take the proper precautions to protect yourself unlike earthquakes that happen sporadically. 1 point tornadoes
2. However, the anticipation of a tornado possibly hitting your house is gut-wrenching. 1-point earthquakes
3. Earthquakes happen once in awhile while there is a "tornado season." 1 point earthquakes
4. Houses (well at least the one I'm in) are typically built to withstand the high winds a tornado brings and I have a safe place to go when a tornado hits. Many times you can't protect yourself from earthquake damage. 1 point tornadoes
5. Tornadoes and earthquakes hit randomly thus damaging your house but not your neighbors. Tie
6. Meteorologists are very good at warning the areas that are going to be most effected before it happens so that the population can take the proper precautions. No one can truly predict an earthquake. 1 point tornadoes
7. Tornadoes usually happen between the hours of 3pm-9pm (except last night) so everyone is awake and not startled out of bed (like last night) where earthquakes happen anytime of day. 1 point tornadoes
8. Tornadoes are a weather thing while earthquakes are an under the earth thing...I'm not sure which is worse. Tie
9. I can grab Jackson and protect him before the tornado hits. The earthquake has already started before I can grab him. 1 point tornado
10. Earthquakes can cause tsunamis (although I never experienced this is California. 1 point tornadoes
11. There is a tornado season so I really only have to worry for those three months while an earthquake can occur anytime of year. 1 point tornadoes
12. Tornadoes and earthquakes can be powerful beyond anything we can imagine! Tie
13. Both are super scary and nerve-racking because you don't know what you are going to get! Tie

So, now I am wondering why I moved from earthquake country to tornado alley. Maybe I should've moved to the east coast. Then I'd be dealing with mass amounts of snow and possibly hurricanes! LOL! All this does is remind me of God's great power and that He is always in control!

Very clever comparisons! This spring has been unusually active with bad weather.

For someone like me, the anxiety of knowing it MIGHT happen (bc the meteorologist told us so) is worse than it just happening without me knowing. I think that was the worst part of an earthquake for me, that manly looking lady on the news talking about the risks of an aftershock as large or larger than the original earthquake itself. I slept on my parents' floor for at least 2 nights after an earthquake. So I say earthquakes all the way.

And plus there's that whole Wizard of Oz thing. Imagining a green-faced witch on a bike swirling around and cackling. Eckgh...Cali all the way.

Is it weird that as soon as I hit publish, a commercial for Wicked came on??? I think it's a sign.

Our Miracle

"He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted." Job 9:10 "You are the God who performs miracles; You will display Your power among the peoples." Psalm 77:14 Meet our miracle...and our secret. Yes, it is true. I am pregnant; about twelve weeks and a few days to be exact. We wanted to make sure this baby was healthy before announcing how great God has been to us! We have known about this precious little blessing for a little over two months and have eagerly awaited numerous sonogram and test results. We have witnessed God's mighty, yet gentle, hand every Tuesday for the past five weeks. This baby is a fighter. However, the road is not "clear" quite yet. We met with the pareanatoligist today to do a sonogram and blood test to determine if there are any chromosomal abnormalities; specifically Downs, and Trisomy 13 and 18. Although the sonogram looked great and the doctor said we were in the "safe zone," we are stil

Don't Lose You

When Jackson was a baby, I would hop into my car on my lunch break and rush to his day care to see him. I had thirty minutes with my baby and I needed every last second. I was a mess of a new mom and had a really hard time leaving him everyday. I was caught in the conundrum of loving teaching with all that I was and loving being a mom desperately wanting to stay home. I established a neat relationship with Jack's care-takers. They were a little older than me and much wiser. They will never fully know how appreciative I am for their advice and comfort during those beginning moments as a mama. When I decided to leave my teaching career and move halfway across the country to do so, they gave me a piece of advice that I didn't take seriously initially but now hold dear. They told me I had to find something for me. They watched me finish my master's that year and knew I was the type that needed to be doing. They recognized that I was about to enter a season where I had to hold

Monday Musings~You have been called...

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:13-14 ...to pray. Meet our newest addition; baby Fish. I am officially 8 weeks four days pregnant! PRAISE GOD!!!! We saw our precious miracle today for the second time; heart flickering away on the monitor with little arm and leg buds beginning to form. The doctor gave us a great report telling us that everything looks perfect...can't get any better than that. God is so good to us. We are blessed beyond belief to experience the miracle of life once again. Please pray for our growing family and our precious growing angel. We feel the presence of God daily and welcome and need your prayers.
